PEERS is a student services learning project dedicated to screening adolescents in the Boston Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department for risk of substance use. Through this program, we use validated screening tools to determine risk and identify need for referral to hospital and community services to address social determinants of health. Developed research project investigating emergency medical services (EMS) provider comfort in treating pediatric patients in a pre-hospital setting. Results will be used to advocate for establishment of standardized education programs for providers in the state of Massachusetts. Matched first year students into advising families with second and fourth year students to provide guidance in both pre-clinical courses and clinical rotations. Organized events including a new student mixer and inter-year social outings. Directly served as peer advisor for four first year students. Hosted career education events for medical students interested in pediatrics including physician panels, research nights, and advocacy talks. Provided financial, administrative, and logistical support to eleven different pediatric student organizations focusing in areas such as family financial literacy, neonatal medicine, LGBTQ health, and pediatric chronic disease care. Facilitated career education events including physician panels, subspecialty panels, and global health talks. Partnered with attending physicians and residents to host clinical skills sessions including three "Stop the Bleed" courses, an intravenous access workshop, and advanced airway session. Assisted resident physicians in teaching skills for medical care in austere environments. Helped plan and execute the first ever wilderness medical simulation day for pre-clinical medical and physician assistant students.
