  Service Missionary

  Represented my Church, volunteering as a Full Time Missionary in Japan. Taught religious lessons in Japanese as well as free English converstion classes. Regularly engaged in community service.Managed groups of up to 20 other volunteers. During this time I acquired excellent social skills, communication skills and leadership skills and can now speak Japanese fluently.

  Responsibilites included: Preparing and presenting lessons for students taking beginners Japanese. These lessons enhance reading, writing and listening skills in the target language. Presenting lessons in the Japanese language to groups of 20 -25 students at a time. Additional responsibilities included marking tests and exams. Responsibilites included: Providing academic and pastoral support to Maori and Pacifika students in their first year of study. Planning and running workshops based on course content and academic skills. Dealing with students one on one and as a group. Keeping records and reporting back to the Equity Coordinator. Using Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher. Responsibilities included: Compiling and analysing data based on success rates of Maori and Pacifika students at the University of Auckland. Desiging and running team building activities for the Tuakana mentors, as well as providing training for them. Frequent face to face contact with students.
