During my master study, I investigated the behavior of shallow foundations, quay walls, and waterfront structures placed in fully saturated sand under earthquake condition. To have a better prediction of the generated pore water pressure and soil displacements during the dynamic loading, I improved the soil permeability subroutine utilized for changing the soil permeability coefficient during liquefactiona in a finite element FORTRAN based code.

My Ph.D. research, funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), had mainly focused on the design and analysis of sustainable and innovative bridge support. The objective of my research project was to evaluate the immediate and long-term performances of geosynthetic reinforced soil (GRS) abutments for bridge support and reinforced soil foundations (RSF). I developed numerical models to simulate the performance of these structures. I implemented predictive modeling and developed prediction models to accurately estimate the deformations of these structures under service loads. Two user friendly prediction tools were created to estimate the deformation of GRS abutments and RSF, which can contribute to a better understanding and simplicity in designing of these structures.
