Currently, I work within the Metabolic, Cardiovascular and Inflammatory Disease GenomicsBranch of NHGRI, as part of Dr. Gary Gibbons’ laboratory. As a group, we investigate how social and environmental factors influence cardiovascular disease in African Americans by taking an 'Omics' approach to begin to unravel this complex disease. My current role requires Python, R and Bash scripting in linux, HPC, and cloud environments to handle and process large, multi-omic human NGS datasets. On a daily basis, I process mRNA sequencing, methylation sequencing, whole genome sequencing and other omic data from raw reads to analysis-ready files. I look forward to continuing to learn, grow, sharpen my programming skills, and strengthen my statistical skills so that I can make informed, robust inferences on the relationship between genomics, environmental factors and phenotypic traits. Show less • Provide lab members with recommendations on optimal quality controls to apply to raw data and support in implementing those techniques• Apply computational theoretical principles to understand biological systems and carry out biological methods and procedures• Advise the lab on experimental design, development and analysis of microbiome data• Development of Genetic Local Ancestry computational pipeline for Gibbons Group genetic data• Development of Bisulfite Methylation computational pipeline for Gibbons Group methylation sequencing data • Implementation of the Broad Institute’s pipeline for RNA-seq data in the Gryphon cluster space dedicated to Gibbons Group• Analyze and interpret output data from the computational pipelines and provides summaries to the group• Preparation and imputation of Gibbons Group genotype data using Michigan’s Imputation Server• Quality assessment and maintenance of phenotype data collected for the GENE-FORECAST study• Management and maintenance of data generated or acquired by Gibbons Group (MH-GRID, GENE-FORECAST, UK-Biobank)• Pilot and test the DNAnexus cloud-computing platform• Maintenance of Gibbons group genome and transcriptome computational pipelines on the Gryphon High Performance Computing cluster Show less
