Once the touch cart was created I also wrote the volunteer training manual and taught several volunteer and staff training sessions- Researched and purchased pony saddle and cowboy themed items for the cowboy touch cart. • Coordinator of Family Programs & Lead Teacher

      • Coordinator of Adult Programs

        Jan 2009 - Jan 2011
    • The Robert McCormick House at Cantigny Park

      Jul 2014 - Dec 2022

In addition to my role as an educator, I took on the role of curator. I selected artifacts, images, and wrote text panels to tell the stories of women who were previously not the main focus. Meeting the demands of two very different jobs means that I am organized and have the ability to prioritize projects and deadlines. I also enjoyed the challenge of working as part of a team to tell a larger institutional story. Also during the 2022 year, I took over bookings for scout programs. This included communication with scout leaders, booking program spaces, coordinating with program teachers and contract artists, as well as maintaining and updating two institutional calendars. I also taught 3 of the scout programs myself. Show less Work in a small museum is never boring! I have built in-person and virtual programs for schools, created and led employee and volunteer training, created a lunch and learn program and a number of family programs. I have written text panels, helped produce exhibits, and participated in strategic planning. I also have experience in staff and volunteer management as I ran museum operations two days a week. Onboarding new staff and volunteers was a great way to help operations at the museum.2020:- Due to Covid-19 I pivoted nearly all of my programs so that they could continue in a socially distanced environment. *Learned Zoom and lead virtual tours of the historic house museum. *Transitioned my lunch and learn program to virtual. *Transitioned my monthly family program to a packet program, so that we could keep our audience engaged. *Transitioned 3 new hands-on programs focusing on the Civil War Sanitary Commission, a Union Cavalry Trooper, and the Suffrage Movement into virtual school programs.2014-2019:-I updated the traditional historic house tour and added content on primary and secondary sources as well as ELA anchor standards on close reading.-I spearheaded training for tour guides so that we could move away from the guide being the keeper of knowledge and make tours more interactive and conversational.-I wrote reading rails to help make the story of the McCormick family more accessible. In 2018, I added versions in large font for those with low vision as well as Chinese and Spanish translations.- I created a monthly drop-in program for families. Using a combination of hands-on activities and crafts I made the McCormick story come to life and helped drive visitation to the museum.-I launched a lunch and learn program for drop-in visitors and staff. Topics for the lunch and learn program vary, but all reflect back on interests or events related to the life of Editor and Publisher Robert R. McCormick. Show less
