Leads a group of Organic Chemistry students through practice problems and questions that arise about the course content. Communicates with the professor to keep up to date on course information and progress. Assisted in preparing for each lab period and helped students through synthetic and analytical organic chemistry techniques. Resident Assistant in Schoenfeld Hall at the University of Portland. Role includes hall community engagement and providing a safe and welcoming environment. Synthesized novel organophosphorus ligands and their metal complexes for use in catalysis of hydrogen fuel storage and production. Gained experience in air-free synthetic chemistry using a shlenk line. Analysis methods included 31P-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and thermogravimetry.

National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates

Performed research under Dr. Victor Ryzhov involving kinetic data of Ion-Molecule Reactions with various formic acid cycle catalysts to determine trends and better guide future synthesis. Experiments were carried out in a mass spectrometer modified to allow gas phase ion-molecule reactions. The REU program also included professional development seminars focused on science policy, grant proposals, presentation methods, and diversity and equity in STEM fields.
