  As a research assistant, I studied small water treatment works in South Africa along with South African water law, policy, and standards in order to transfer sustainable drinking water technology. Additionally, I researched implementation approaches of different methods (i.e. inlet manifolds and random packing material) to improve the hydraulic disinfection efficiency of disinfection contact tanks. As a part of my master's thesis, I ran a case study on a live system in Rosetta, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa with a collaborative partner Umgeni Water. Show less

  I have taught the undergraduate Fluid Mechanics Lab (4 semesters). As a teaching assistant, I set up physical laboratory and facilitated students in running experiments demonstrating the main concepts of fluid mechanics (including fluid properties, buoyancy, fluid rotation, jet momentum, pipe flow and cavitation, drag on a cylinder, CFD, and open channel flow), aided students in understanding course material and writing lab reports. I held office hours and graded written lab reports according to ABET Outcomes and helped to make adjustments in the labs in hopes to improve students’ experience and understanding. After 4 semester, I compiled observations (mine as well as other TA's) and created a suggested new curriculum for how the Fluid Mechanics Lab could be taught to better align with the ABET Learning Objectives. I also taught the Molecular Tools for Engineers Lab (2 semesters) at the graduate level covering bacteria culturing, DNA transformation and extraction, protein purification, PCR, Gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, SDS-PAGE, and ELISA. For this lab I independently ran dry runs all labs prior to trouble shoot any issues. I ordered and prepared all necessary materials and media/assays for student groups.
