  This job mostly involves menial, unskilled tasks like pushing shopping carts, bagging groceries, and cleaning around the store. However, I have several opportunities each day to talk to people and practice my verbal communication skills, which will benefit me greatly during a future interview or presentation. I also have to be patient and courteous in my interactions with customers, coworkers, and managers, which is a critical skill for success in a white-collar job.

  Technology Assistance Center student employee

  This job involves troubleshooting basic technical issues for UNCW students and staff. I assist walk-in and live chat clients. Most problems are very basic and repetitive, such as Wi-Fi connectivity, two-factor authentication, and password reset. However, some are more advanced, particularly those involving software or systems with which I am not familiar. These scenarios require me to think on my feet, use the right resources, and ask the right questions to Google to answer all client questions. This job has helped me gain substantial experience with solving problems with technology and gaining more knowledge about technology in general. I treat the job like a school class and study resolved/archived tickets/problems to further expand my skills. Show less
