      Aug 2015 - Aug 2015
      Intern

I applied for this internship to see the other side of the prosthesis industry. I already had some technical information from my university projects but being able to observe the interactions with the patients which included taking measurements and fitting was an invaluable experience. I also helped in the workshop with modelling and assembling the artificial limbs.

    • Netcraft

      Sept 2015 - Oct 2015
      Websites classifier

Having a part-time job during University is a good practice to improve time management skills. Working with Netcraft also increased my knowledge about Internet Services as my job is the classification of websites that provide those services.

    • Rolls-royce

      Jun 2016 - Jun 2017
      Project engineer

My placement at Rolls Royce Control Systems in Birmingham was a fruitful experience. I was based in the Research and Technology department and got involved in a range of tasks. Those tasks include report writing, testing, presenting in design reviews and continuous improvement activities. Report writing increased my communication skills as I had to contact many people to get the information I needed. Those people were usually specialists which meant that I gained lots of new technical information that enhanced my understanding of the aerospace industry. Testing was a chance to get a hands-on experience and see the realistic problems that can occur. Presenting to the chief design engineer in design reviews taught me to accept personal responsibility and increased my self-confidence. Continuous improvement activities were a chance to be more creative and think of ways to improve the processes followed. Overall, I was satisfied with what I did and looking forward to possibly returning to Rolls Royce after graduating. Show less

    • Blatchford

      Aug 2017 - Sept 2017
      Mechatronics design engineering summer intern

During my internship at Blatchford I was responsible for designing and building a test rig to test the performance of a new valve. In order to do that, I had to design the hydraulic system, choose the components, contact the suppliers to get quotes, design the test blocks to hold different components and program the electronic control of the rig. This experience allowed me to fully use both my mechanical and electrical knowledge in addition to the hydraulic experience I had from my placement at Rolls Royce. Show less

Lead the project A Person‑Based Approach to the Development of Upper Limb Prostheses, which builds on my PhD work. The project aims to produce a step change in how rehabilitation research is conducted and is highly interdisciplinary with user-centred design, psychology, electronics and IoT elements. I am working on developing sensory feedback methods for upper-limb prostheses as part of the C3Bio research group.
