  Antibiotic Ally Against Anti-Microbial Resistance

  - Acquired understanding of anti-microbial resistance (AMR) and the efforts that are being placed to stop it in a global context on a panel with Cambridge Global Health Partnerships. - Investigated the importance of preventing AMR and how advocating about this issue is essential for broader public understanding. - Evaluated available grants through the Global AMR R&D hubs about grants supporting research projects preventing AMR in collaboration with the PAR Foundation. Specialised in studying research in Diagnostics and in Public Research Institutions. - Coordinated with students studying different degrees at various UK universities through digital platforms to give an insightful presentation on AMR advocating ways to create effective change in the research community.   - Assisted 17 students in the UCL’s School of Pharmacy’s MSc Drug Discovery and Development programme for their group research project on making a compound library targeting mycetoma. Taught them the basics of using chemistry glassware and equipment (rotary evaporator, vacuum filtration using Büchner flask with funnel, hotplate, thin layer chromatography).- Supported teaching lecturers and PhD demonstrators to oversee the students in lab. Performed miscellaneous duties as requested by manager to ensure the project successfully completes.- Prepared and maintained glassware, replaced and disposed of chemicals, and kept up the cleanliness of the lab for students to be able to yield high quality synthesis results.- Ordered supplies under the supervision of my manager, picked up deliveries, and prepared them.- Trained in using the NMR machine and ran students’ samples through a Bruker 400 NMR machine.- Handled a Biotage Selekt Flash Chromatography machine to purify students’ products.- Packed up all supplies and helped move them from teaching labs to research labs.- Helped prepare laboratory practicals for the 2023-2024 MSc Drug Discovery cohort by keeping an extensive inventory on Excel format of all the plants, reagents, glassware, and machinery in stock, to be used in the practicals, and to be purchased. Rechecked numbers to ensure accuracy- Also assisted in improving the laboratory practicals' protocol by incorporating my view as a student to improve learning outcome.- Advised a current MSc student on how to improve her study and exam skills by reflecting on previously developed skills from past experiences.   Broadening Horizons in the Chemical Sciences Cohort 2023-2024

  - A participant in a programme the Royal Society of Chemistry made as a result of their "Missing Elements" repost which highlights that systemic racial discrimination has hindered the retention and progression of talented chemists from minoritised ethnic groups, particularly Black chemists.- Networked with many leaders, role models, and career advisors whilst learning about how to succeed in the chemical sciences industry from the RSC and its partner companies: AstraZeneca, GSK, Unilever, Johnson Matthey, BASF, Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Syngenta, Nanomerics Ltd, AM Technology, RSSL, and Charles River Laboratories.- Visited RSSL on a site tour.
