      Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Nanotechnology

Thesis topic: "NanoInjectors for Cells". Working under the co-supervision of prof. Uri Sivan (physics dept.) and prof. Lior Gepstein (medical school) I invented, designed, and built an array of hollow submicrometric needles capable of multiple time, selective, drug delivery into single cells in culture. During this experimental work I acquired experience in clean room fabrication (photo- and e-beam - lithography, plasma etch, wet etch, and so forth); microscopy (optical, confocal, fluorescence,… Show more Thesis topic: "NanoInjectors for Cells". Computer Architecture Student

Part time work as a student in the computer architecture group.

    • Israel Defense Forces

      Jan 1997 - Jan 2005
      Electronics Group Leader

Work as an officer and a group leader in a unique R&D unit belonging to IDF. Part of the time (3 years) was spent at Elta industries, where I was involved both in the low level algorithm development of a system as well as in its high level definitions and technical leading.I managed a team of five soldiers and officers, and led the development of several systems that combine hardware, software, and mechanics. I was involved in all the aspects of the development and the deployment of those systems. The work included project management, budget building and tracking, system engineering, experimentation to military specs (mil-std-811 etc.), training to special units, and adhering to schedules in a demanding environment. During my work with IDF I won my unit's excellent officer's prize. Show less

      Verification Engineer

Work as a verification engineer at Freescale's DSPP line in Herzliya. I worked as part of an R&D team developing and validating microprocessors. I did system level verification and checked code coverage using nc-verilog and internal tools.

      Jan 2008 - Jan 2011
Teaching Assistant (parallel to Ph.D. studies)

Teaching Physics courses to undergraduate students, in parallel to doctoral studies.I taught the basic courses in electricity and electromagnetism both to engineering and to physics undergraduates in the Technion. During this work I won three consecutive times prizes for excellence in teaching. During one year of this period I was the principal teaching assistant of the courses, and prepared new teaching materials for them.

    • Cisco Systems (formerly NDS)

      Jan 2012 - Nov 2016
      Researcher

Research position at Cisco's Haifa Research Center, focusing on security evaluation of hardware chips. My research topics encompass all aspects of the hardware architecture, design and implementation. I design and implement invasive and non invasive attacks in a myriad of techniques (e.g., fault insertion, side channel analysis); practical use of advanced tools (SEM, FIB laser machines, clean room environment, lithography, and so on); and analysis.Since September 2012 I am in charge of an optical laboratory equipped with laser systems and other optical equipment (optical fibers, cameras, filters, and so forth) . This part of my job includes all the aspects regarding the lab and its uses, and is carried on in parallel to my research in other aspects of hardware security. Show less

    • Intel Corporation

      Nov 2016 - now

Technically lead and manage a hardware security research and evaluation team, concentrating on physical attacks (fault injection, hardware side channels, reverse engineering, and so forth) and their applicability to existing and future hardware. The team is spread over several countries and contains experts from diverse fields ranging from Chemistry to Nanotechnology. We concentrate on evaluating hardware (from 1um downto 3nm process technologies) for vulnerabilities and find ways to compromise the Confidentiality, Authenticity, Integrity and Privacy of modern computing systems, including embedded systems and advanced platforms. My main interest fields focus on ways to apply failure analysis tools and techniques to security. My work spans:HW Reverse Engineering: Destructive, Semi-destructive and Non-destructive ; Advanced packaging (abusing dice “disaggregation-effects”) ; System to single transistor level ; Vulnerability analysis of HW / SW flows and their implementationsPhysical Attacks: Fault Injection - laser, EM, voltage, clock, … ;Side Channel Analysis - simple, differential, template and higher order power analysis Crypto Analysis and attacks on crypto implementations: AES, SHA, Dilithium, ECDSA, and othersSecret and Crypto Keys ExtractionHW Root of Trust (OTP, Fuses, Anifuses, Metal keys, PUF value, etc…)Volatile & Non-volatile Memory ExtractionFW ExtractionAn integral part of my work is also to suggest mitigations to vulnerabilities, write guidelines and BKMs (best known methods) for architects/designers, and train/educate personnel at various aspects of (mainly physical) security.Me and my team members won multiple internal awards for our contributions to Intel security; Our group was also published as a unique differentiator in Intel security (see some headlines on the attached media). Show less Hardware oriented security research on Intel's products and architecture. As a security researcher I concentrated on leveraging tools and techniques from the failure analysis (FA) world to security related applications. FA techniques used for: sample preparation, contact and contactless probing, optical based techniques (LADA, LVP, ...), e-beam based techniques, FIB, microscopy (optical and electron) and so forth. I also applied fault injection (especially laser fault injection) and power analysis through EM radiation and more. The techniques were applied to test the susceptability of Intel products and platforms to reverse engineering and physical attacks; I also issued guidelines to BUs on how to store, transfer, and use sensitive data, configurations, keys and hardening of security sensitive IPs in Intel platforms.During my work I received multiple Department Recognition Awards for my contributions to Intel's security, presented on internal Intel events/conferences (including keynotes) and trained other employees. Another aspect of my work was to design, build and manage my group's laser laboratory. This included all aspects of lab management, including laser safety (I am an officially recognized Laser Safety Officer) on a class 4 laser lab. Show less
