► On the Job Training.♦ New chiropractors in the mid-1990s had limited choices: start a practice or buy one. Either direction was accompanied by risks involved with business ownership. As a business owner, I had many roles including clinician, owner, and educator.♦ As a physician: ◊ I built a practice based upon holistic medical practices with the primary focus on educating patients on wellness strategies. ◊ I designed treatment plans for patients that combined innovative treatments, manual techniques, daily exercises, nutrition, ergonomic work evaluations, and specialist referrals.♦ As a business owner: ◊ I launched two patient-focused businesses. One where I pioneered the application of cold laser therapy for the use of smoking cessation in Minnesota and another where I collaborated with other clinics to add nutrition counseling services to their locations. ◊ I owned and managed a commercial building - I recruited tenants, negotiated leases, and mediated conflicts. ◊ I produced monthly drive events in conjunction with local charitable organizations. I then provided healthcare services in exchange for the charities’ needs, i.e. toys, coats, that enabled community engagement and drove new patients.◊ I set and implemented strategic plans; hired, trained, developed, and reviewed staff; and managed the budget and P&L.♦ As an educator: ◊ I created original written content in the form of articles, newsletters, blogs, etc. to expand clients’ knowledge in the area of holistic health, with the goal of providing industry leading information to all clients to take better care of themselves. ◊ I authored a peer-reviewed journal article and taught post-doctoral and post-graduate seminars and workshops. ◊ I taught monthly community education and senior center courses on health related topics, i.e. diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s. I created lectures and workshops to took complex medical information to create practical, actionable advice. Show less

      Founder & Executive Director

► Seeing a Need and Filling it.♦ Central MN Health Education Services was a non-profit organization formed with the idea that better health education leads to better health outcomes. Our vision was that everyone in our community should have the best available health information to make informed health care choices. Our mission was to provide tools and information that could improve the health and wellness of Central Minnesotans.♦ As the founder of Central MN Health Education Services: ◊ I orchestrated the creation of a nonprofit to provide tools and information that improved the health and wellness of Central Minnesotans. ◊ I constructed and implemented a new business model, strategic roadmap, and marketing plan to create a nonprofit and then created partner relationships with health and wellness providers in Central MN.♦ As the executive director: ◊ I partnered with local wellness businesses to provide health promotion activities. ◊ I organized health fairs for regional organizations to increase wellness knowledge and expand reach for our member providers to drive new business. ◊ I provided education and mentoring to wellness businesses with a focus on expanding awareness and increasing revenues. ◊ I established and managed yearly budget. ◊ I mentored board members in nonprofit management. ◊ I measured health fair outcomes through surveys of clients, vendors, and employees and made adjustments to drive impact.
