      - Leading a project to characterize the effect of voids on the effective composite properties using micromechanical studies. Instructing students to carry out solid modeling and FEA using ABAQUS CAE, applying loads and boundary conditions and conducting data analysis- Studying the effect of 3 ball spherical support and simply support on a circular laminated plate, indented with flat punch, uniformly distributed load and spherical contact load. Multidisciplinary project involving the material science department and dental school at the University of Florida Show less Hybrid Composites contain more than one type of fiber in a single matrix material. They have been developed as a logical sequel to conventional composites having one fiber. They have unique features that can be used to meet various design requirements in a more economical way than conventional composites. Hybrid composites find use in buildings, bridges and structures such as boat hulls, swimming pool panels, race car bodies, shower stalls, bathtubs, storage tanks, imitation granite and cultured marble sinks and counter tops. The most advanced examples perform routinely on spacecraft in demanding environments owing to their superior strength to weight ratio. My research focus is mechanical property characterization of hybrid composites using Finite Element method based micromechanics. Research highlights:- Designed a computational model of a hybrid composite material in Abaqus/Standard to predict and optimize the mechanical properties- Simulated microcracking behavior in a material using progressive damage material model in Abaqus - Conducted statistical data analysis for understanding variation in elastic constants and strengths in hybrid composites- Developed analytical formulations for predicting the effective mechanical properties of composites- Analyzed the transverse strength of composites. This is significantly affected by hybridization and randomization of fiber locations- Developed failure envelopes for hybrid composites for predicting the design strength in multiaxial loading- Modeled progressive damage and interfacial debonding in fiber composites using Damage Mechanics concepts Show less Teaching highlights:- Appointed as a "Super TA" to supervise a team of 2 teaching assistants for ensuring scheduled completion of assignments (grading and mentoring) for a class of 150- Assisted a class of 160 students with experimental setup and LabView programming for performing data acquisition using a NI USB-6009 DAQ- Mentored and graded assignments for class sizes varying between 60-180 students for the following graduate and undergraduate level courses - Mechanics of Materials - Finite Element Analysis - Fracture Mechanics - Aerospace Structures - Advanced Structural Composites Show less
