      Malaysian Medical Summit (MMS) has seen the largest congregation of Malaysian medical students (studying abroad and locally) and doctors for a two-day feast of inspiring keynote and panels, engaging delegates in fruitful intellectual discourse, and a series of workshops tailored to suit delegates’ needs.Among the many panels conducted were those concerning Politics in Healthcare and Global Challenges Affecting Malaysian Healthcare. The Politics in Healthcare panel consisted of the following speakers: 1) Yang Bahagia Dr Lee Boon Chye, The Deputy Minister of Health of Malaysia2) Tan Sri Dato Seri Dr Haji Mohamed Ismail Merican, Former Director General of Health of Malaysia and Former President of the Malaysian Medical Council and Current President of the Malaysian Liver Foundation3) Yang Bahagia Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Director of the Malaysian Medical FellowshipGlobal Challenges Affecting Malaysian Healthcare:1) Yang Bahagia Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director General of Health2) Yang Bahagia Prof. Dato' Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman, Dean of Faculty of Medicine of Universiti of Malaya3) Dr. Lee Yew Fong, Former Principal Assistant Director of Health at the Penang State Health DepartmentI was directly in charge of managing the Specialist Workshops conducted by clinicians from the University of Malaya Medical Centre and Faculty of Medicine at the aforementioned locations. We arranged a total of 16 different workshops for over 300 participants. There was an extensive variety of workshops ranging from Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Orthopaedic Oncology to Paediatric Haemato Oncology and Bio-Medical Imaging. The workshops consisted of a Q and A session between the participants and the consultant and a case discussion/ interactive lecture and teaching on a skill unique to that specialty. For example, some of the procedures that were taught were Arthroscopy on Shoulder and Knee Specimens and a Plaster of Paris walkthrough. Show less

      - Worked in a research group in the Department of Cancer and Surgery at the Imperial Centre for Translational and Experimental Medicine- Used techniques including Tissue Culture, Transfection, Protein Extraction, Dual Phase Extraction of Metabolites, Western Blotting(from Electrophoresis to Film Development) and Result Analysis.- Experiments conducted included studying the difference in protein expression(especially oncogenes and tumour suppressors) between various transfected cell lines and multiple Clonogenic and SRB assays looking at the efficacies of a drug treatment in resistant and standard cell lines at different concentrations.- Observed techniques included use of Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and qPCR.- Literature review of the interaction between energy metabolism and a tumour suppressor protein.
