      Senior A/P Team Leader

General maintenance (involving production support on a rota basis) and enhancements of ON/2 financial payments system running on STRATUS and a communications and mapping systems developed for a Travel Industry client (Worldspan) running on an RS/6000 (AIX 4.3) utilising EDIFACT standard messages. Lead a team of 3, providing technical guidance to 2 junior staff, until being made redundant on 19th July (due to depressed World economy). Mapping between client host system proprietary screen format and IATA EDIFACT effected using API calls to Mercator main map from within NeT/X modules (S2 multi-tasking real time communications software) written in C.Mercator mapping written and maintained on NT utilising complicated functional maps and rules to ensure smooth translation of data before porting to RS/6000 format within Mercator Map Designer. Small project undertaken (utilising Microsoft Project) to convert client maps from Mercator 1.4.2 to 5 to overcome problems with converting certain data patterns from the original clients screen formats. Extensive shell scripting constructed to effect file transfers and for map execution and general daily/weekly housekeeping on the RS/6000 and for the completion of the version upgrade (1.4.2 to 5). XML front end to the screen based input for the Worldspan system undertaken for the benefit of a number of Worldspan clients, which involved careful construction of the Mercator Type Trees to represent the XML format and then appropriate rules to manipulate between the different formats.Evaluation of Mercator version 6 undertaken before the conversion to version 5 to ensure redundancy of such an upgrade. Exposure to C++ during the writing of a LINK simulator for OpeN/2 testing/demo purposes. Show less

    • Phillips Electronics

      Jan 2002 - Jan 2002
      Mercator (now WTX) Consultant

Mercator consultant working on the mapping of logistics data between EDIFACT and IDoc format for Philips SAP systems running on NT and AIX utilising MQ Series as the transport mechanism. Converted the majority of Philips maps from 1.4.2 to 5 in a team of 4 and also developed some maps to convert between XML and IDoc running under Mercator 5, involving synchronisation of IDoc formats with Mercator type trees (for EDIFACT) to ensure correct processing within the SAP system. Good communications channels to the SAP staff imperative for general design issues and live problem solving. All mapping work done under NT then ported to RS/6000 format. Maps proved under NT ensuring exact match between new and old data, then tested under AIX utilising complex shell scripts for map executions and movement of documents to/from correct locations.A new factory was added to Philips systems during this contract which necessitated painstaking updating of translation tables and rules and regression testing. • National Australia Group

      Apr 2003 - Jul 2003
      DataStage TX (now WTX) consultant

Mercator consultant working on the mapping of data between legacy CICS Cobol systems and XML for a pilot Java Front end system. The message sets for each transaction were developed using XML Spy 5.4, which was also used for documentation purposes via XML Schemas, then taken through a local approval meeting before being submitted for global approval (branches in Australia, New Zealand and England) to ensure maximum reusability. Type trees were developed by importing the schemas generated from XML Spy, along with the associated legacy COBOL copy books, into the Type Designer. The maps for each transaction were then developed within the Map Designer, involving use of functional maps and EXIT routines to manipulate the data into the correct format. Source control of the Mercator source and executables was effected under NT using Harvest. System testing was undertaken by exporting the map to Unix format then ftping the executable map to the Solaris. Routing of messages on the Solaris machine was controlled by setting up appropriate business services and elements within ROMA and the manipulation of ROMA specific data within the execution of each Mercator map within the business flow. • DHL Supply Chain

      Oct 2003 - Feb 2004
      DataStage TX (now WTX) consultant

TX consultant working on the reengineering of existing communications interfaces between Exel and 5 clients who were using FTP as a transport medium and Access databases for data manipulation to FTP/Mercator/Oracle. Time consuming research necessary to unravel existing, poorly written, Access database routines and then translate into specifications for reworking under Mercator, utilising database adapters for the interface to Oracle tables. SQL extracted from the Access routines had to be reworded to compile the resulting stored procedure successfully under TOAD. Parallel running was the format for system testing to prove reworked link against existing legacy link after initial unit testing. Show less

Significant use of systems constructed using the Database Interface Designer and Integration Flow Designer, using FTP/Email/MQSeries adapters to effect communications. All maps unit tested under Windows then AIX before deploying to the live AIX system. Performance issues with the communication to/from MQ queues addressed by buffering the transfer of messages.
