Artist Statement: I am a fine art printmaker who has been making art and living in Brooklyn all my life. Most of my imagery is inspired by this place of constant growth – the juxtaposition of hard-edged buildings escalating ever taller with the trees and plants growing in parks, along streets, and in sidewalk cracks despite all odds. I revel in this city’s unpredictable creative collaboration, including its challenges. My work too isn’t all planned out. Rather I take one step after another to build a complexity of overlapping chaos and boundaries. A former layout artist before digital publishing, I draw with a blade – cutting across the surfaces of wood, metal, plexiglass or mat board to express the mysterious rhythms of this place and my own inner knowing. Flowers and leaves bump up against human trash of foil, mesh, cardboard and milk cartons to give the plate added texture. Working hand-in-hand with a skilled master printer to ink the plate, there is the moment of pulling a print off the press, each one a unique surprise. Each work is original, signed by the artist, and stamped by the master printmaker. To purchase art or for more information please contact me at: (718) 930-6543 or carolmorrison@mindspring.com Show less
