      Research Assistant

I was employed as a Research Assistant at Pacuare Reserve, which is renowned for its vast biodiversity and is one of the largest reserves in Costa Rica. In my role, I was entrusted with significant responsibilities aimed at the conservation and welfare of various turtle species as well as primates, birds and mammals. My primary duty involved daily patrols along a 12-kilometer stretch of beach, where I actively searched for nesting female turtles. Once located, I carefully collected their eggs and assessed the turtles for any signs of injury. This data is crucial for improving their overall well-being in the future. I have received comprehensive training from esteemed experts in the field of Leatherback, Green, and Hawksbill turtle conservation. Consequently, I possess the necessary skills to proficiently tag, microchip, and evaluate these turtle species to a high standard.Recognizing the importance of hatchling success, I have developed strong proficiency in natural hatchling incubation and release techniques. Additionally, I actively engaged in data collection throughout the entire hatchling process. This holistic approach allows for comprehensive analysis and informed decision-making regarding hatchling welfare. In an effort to enhance my communication skills and facilitate meaningful interactions, I am diligently learning Spanish. This enables me to actively participate in various activities within the reserve. Furthermore, I have gained valuable experience in other areas, such as monitoring Capuchin, Howler, and Spider monkeys, utilizing camera traps to study Jaguar behaviors, and leading guided jungle tours.I am privileged to be a part of this exceptional project at Pacuare Reserve, where my contributions directly impact the development of legislation to improve the welfare of future nesting female turtles. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to make a positive difference in the conservation of these remarkable creatures. Show less
