Much of my chairside manner as a hygienist is adaptations of things I learned at this stage of my career. As a result I consistently have good feedback for making my patients feel at ease, whilst simultaneously being honest, informative and thorough.   University of Essex lacks a dental hospital so all of its graduates complete the practical elements of the course within the practice setting. Subsequently I worked (pro-bono) in three dental practices, led over 200 appointments and delivered my full scope of practices by the end of my tuition. As a graduate simple things like being exposed to different software and having different materials and instruments from the beginning has given me a built in adaptability, really helps.
