  Foodworks is a small chain of grocery stores run by franchisee's containing anything you'd find at Coles or Woolworths.As this was my first job I learnt everything from scratch, I learnt about FIFO, how to stock shelves, WHS and how to use a cash register. I learnt all of my customer service skills, the importance of upselling, how to deal with complaints and how to work with others. I was part of the Foodworks family and the owners treated me like family. As time progressed my jobs increased in difficulty, I was tasked with training new employees and had started to manage the counter by myself. I also learnt the importance of building rapport with our regular customers.My proudest achievement was a continued effort to build a rapport with one particularly grumpy old man who I now know as Arthur. After I managed to break the ice everytime he would come in to get his paper I would get a smile instead of a grunt. Skills that I can carrying on to another job would be my ability to build rapport with individuals, handle complaints efficiently and work in a team environment. Show less

  Apprentice Chef

  The Star Casino consists of 3 production kitchens and 11 restaurants and bars. Some other companies under the operation of the Star Entertainment group are; The Star Sydney, The Treasury and The Gold coast convention centre.During my time at the Casino I was an apprentice chef, I rotated through one restaurant (The Harvest Buffet) and all three production kitchens. I was required to switch kitchens every three months and adapt to a whole new set of tasks in a completely different environment. I made bulk vanilla slice, single omelettes for hundreds of people, canapes and fried 15kg of fish. Never in my life did I think I'd see a block of butter bigger than my head but this experience provided me with that. It was challenging and I was almost always pressed for time but I wouldn't retract the experience from my life even if I could, the people were some of the friendliest and happiest I have ever encountered.My proudest accomplishment would be at my time in the Harvest Buffet when we were booked out completely by a tour group. In order to cater to the influx of people we needed to set up a seperate breakfast bar which I was solely responsible for as all of the senior chef's had their hands full. I was able to keep up with demand and maintain customers happiness.The skills I acquired from my time as an apprentice stretched far beyond cooking, my time management skills, organisational skills and ability to work under pressure were increased ten fold. I was made to work with people from all ages from every part of the world and found comradery in every kitchen. Most importantly I learnt that it's okay to pull away from a job if it's not for you, even after nine months of dedication. Show less

  City Beach is a retail store that specialises in the sales of clothing, shoes and many more specialised items (skateboards, watches, gopros).The job I have been mainly assigned to is watching the change room in order to prevent theft and ensure customers have a favourable experience. I take customers clothing, ensure they don't exceed the limit and show them to their change room. I have also been assigned to ensure that stock looks presentable and is returned to the correct locations within the store.The achievement I'm most proud of was assisting a customer to ensure that she got a discount on her prom dress despite not having her phone to get the code by email. I was able to work around the dilemma with my manager and she was able to get her dress at a discounted price.The skills I have acquired to date are customer service, enforcing rules set in place by the company, learning about recovering stock and colour blocking.
