R&D Laboratory Manager at ADM Cork H&W Limited

  • Education

    • Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

      2011 - 2012
      Master's degree Applied Microbiology 8.73/10

Activities and Societies: Received a Ph.D. fellowship from Autonomous University of Barcelona. The master's degree in Applied Microbiology provides advanced knowledge in applied microbiology. The syllabus gives an integrated view of molecular and environmental microbiology applications and further training in clinical or biotechnological areas.Projects:- Vaccine production based on Salmonella mutants with alterations in the regulatory systems for iron uptake.

    • Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

      2007 - 2011
Licentiate degree Biology, specialized in Microbiololgy 8,40/10

Activities and Societies: Collaboration scholarship in the Molecular Microbiology group (2010-2011) During the collaboration scholarship I participated in the construction of Salmonella mutants in order to obtain strains with alterations in the regulatory systems of iron uptake.

    • UAB - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

      Oct 2011 - Feb 2016
      Ph.D. in Microbiology

Projects:-Nano and microencapsulation of bacteriophages. Use of encapsulation methods to improve oral delivery of phage during therapy. Treatment against food born pathogens (Salmonella).-Bacteriophage genomics. Understand life cycle and genetics of bacteriophages used in treatments to assure their safety as therapeutic agents.

    • The University of Nottingham

      Apr 2015 - Jul 2015
      International Ph.D.

Vibrio cholera treatment based on phage therapy.

    • The University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science

      Apr 2016 - Feb 2018
      Postdoctoral Researcher

During this period of time I have managed multiple projects which involved mentoring, delegating as well as ensuring laboratory standards were met and supplies were sufficient. Projects managed:- ANIHWA-Antibiophage. Bacteriophage-based approach for reducing infections caused by antibiotic resistant Escherichia coli. Targeting avian pathogenic and extraintestinal E. coli.- Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. Lytic Bacteriophages: Stabilizing the Gut Microbiome. Treatment of enteric diseases caused by E. coli, Salmonella and Campylobacter. -UKIERI. Use of lytic phage to control antibiotic multiresistant Vibrio cholerae in human. Classic phage therapy work combined with genomic engineering of phages with CRISPR systems to increase their efficacy.- Selection of specific phages to tackle antibiotic multiresistant bacteria.
