      Occupational Hygienist

Commencing as a Graduate Occupational Hygienist in Melbourne, I was promoted to Occupational Hygienist upon the completion of my post graduate degree. I re-located to Brisbane in the middle of 2013, where I was heavily involved in leading up business development in Queensland. This resulted in independently managing inspections and audits from small to large businesses across Queensland and Australia. Toward the end of my tenure, I began acting as a mentor for Graduate or Junior Occupational Hygiene consultants to provide on the job training and support. The decision to move on from JTA was based on improving work/life balance at the time, as being employed by a Melbourne based company was resulting in too much interstate travel at the time. This role involved:  Asbestos air monitoring and risk assessment; Asbestos removal clearance inspections; Hazardous substances / airborne contaminant assessments (dusts, fumes, gases); Asbestos / hazardous materials audits and risk assessments; Health and safety document and quality systems audit, review and development;  Occupational noise assessments including risk assessment and controls; Audiometric testing and audiometric test booth background environment checks; Manual handling / ergonomics assessments; Statutory requirements - OHS Act, Regulations, Codes, Standards; Heat stress / thermal comfort assessments; Workplace lighting. Aug 2015 - Jul 2016
      Occupational Hygienist / WHS Consultant

Commencing as the sole Occupational Hygienist in the Brisbane Office in August 2015, I was provided with individual responsibility for the provision of occupational hygiene services for the Queensland region. I was allowed the freedom and responsibility to project manage my own work from incoming requests for work from clients, through to project completion. This generally resulted in repeat work from clients due to the ability to create and maintain rapport with clients. The role involved primarily occupational hygiene-based work, supplemented by aiding the asbestos and hazardous materials team whenever they have had shortfalls in capacity. My decision to move on from Coffey was based on improving work/life balance with the birth of my second daughter. This role involved:  Occupational Hygiene consulting; typically involving hazardous substances / airborne contaminant assessments (dusts, fumes, gases, bacteria, fungi); Asbestos air monitoring, including background control and clearance monitoring during both friable and non-friable removal works; Asbestos and Hazardous materials risk assessments, including routine audits; Asbestos removal clearance inspections for both friable and non-friable removal works; Health and safety documentation and quality systems audit, review and development; both internally and externally; Audiometric test booth background environment checks; Statutory requirements – OHS/WHS Act, Regulations, Codes, Standards Show less

    • AusSafety Pty Ltd

      Jul 2016 - Nov 2022

Toward the end of 2021, AusSafety undertook a wide-ranging review of operations and instated a Leadership Team. The purpose was to have representation from the most experiences 'heads' of each area of the the business to come together and help the business improve and grow. The team meets regularly with a focus on improving AusSafety for the benefit of our clients, as well as to ensure we a providing a workplace where everyone can proudly state that they are happy and keen to come to work every day. Show less Commencing as the Principal Occupational Hygienist, my role has evolved from overseeing the work carried out by Occupational Hygiene Technicians to more recently, mentoring a Graduate Occupational Hygienist. The position has been quite autonomous whilst forming a key part of the team, managing myself day to day with weekly check ins with the Business Manager and Managing Director. The work has involved close working relationships with our key clients, providing them a key Occupational Hygiene resource on hand whenever required by the client leadership team. I have worked alongside them to help develop monitoring programs/scopes of work that help them adequately assess hazards in their work environments to ensure they are managing their risks appropriately. This has included ensuring correct equipment and monitoring techniques utilised, reviewing results and issuing reporting in a timely manner. We have recently been flat out with work throughout 2020 with some very large and complex monitoring programs and site inspections that have been logistically challenging given the travel restrictions in 2020. Typical work areas and responsibilities have included:  Occupational Hygiene consulting; typically involving hazardous chemicals / airborne contaminant assessments (QGL02 respirable crystalline silica dust management, monitoring plans and assessments, other dust, fumes, gases, bacteria, fungi) and occupational noise assessments; Asbestos and Hazardous materials risk assessments, including routine audits; Equipment and calibration management; Tender submissions, proposals and Scopes of Work; Quality assurance, reporting, report reviews, junior employee guidance and mentoring, etc.; Health and safety documentation and quality systems audit, review and development; both internally and externally; Audiometric test booth background environment checks; Statutory requirements – OHS/WHS Act, Regulations, Codes, Standards.
