The thesis is performed at Scania's purchasing department and investigates possibilities and challenges when purchasing upstream in the supply chain. The thesis provides an analysis of an area that will increasingly come into focus due to squeezed margins and intense competition. The thesis is very well written and have a technical level that is very high. The method is very suitable for the study and described excellent. The choice of theory is good for the studied area. The extensive empirical data based on several companies other than the host company provides broad insights in the subject. The authors' model development is commendable and creative. The authors' conclusions are interesting and demonstrates the difficulty of finding all relevant theories to assess how to handle contacts with suppliers. The authors conclusions that the problems examined also exists in other companies and that the solutions should be company specific are very relevant. In addition, the relationships between the parties involved is essential.Helena Forslund och Oskar JellboPLAN logistics association Show less
