      Placement

As part of a University Placement, I conducted a report on the benefits of ShipShape Health and Wellbeing centre to the community. The report included qualitative data in the form of case studies from service users, doctors, NHS workers and other various stakeholders of the centre. These were mainly conducted in a one-to-one interview setting. As well as this report I was involved in the facilitation of group sessions that the centre runs for it's clients. These sessions ranged from an event to celebrate World No Smoking day to a regular session helping those with chronic pain issues. Show less

    • Sheffield Hallam University

      Sept 2013 - Jul 2014

Worked as part of a research team from beginning to end on a project entitled; "Delineating Course Identity: How is 'Psychology & Sociology' different from 'Psychology' and 'Sociology'?" I was the sole student researcher on the project, working with three lecturers from the relevant courses. As the sole student researcher I was tasked with successfully completing all tasks which were student facing in order to minimise the effect of power dynamics on the results. An aspect of this involved the gathering of both quantitative and qualitative data. I led the recruitment of participants through presenting the study to bodies of students during lectures, seminars and email outreach, then facilitated the completion of questionnaires. Furthermore, I recruited participants for one-to-one interviews and then conducted these interviews with said participants.I was involved in the formation of the questionnaire, collated the quantitative data into an efficient SPSS spreadsheet and then ran the analysis using SPSS. I was also involved in the formation of the interview schedule, personally transcribed said interviews and analysed the data using thematic analysis.Furthermore, I helped to design a poster detailing the study, then individually presented the poster at a faculty wide University forum to lecturers, researchers and students alike. Sept 2014 - Jun 2016
      Mental Health Support Worker

Supported individuals in all aspects of their care needs including emotional, financial, social and physical needs. As part of their care needs I was involved in numerous multi-disciplinary meetings, leading a few, including professionals from a wide range of careers. For example, I worked with physios in introducing appropriate physical exercises to improve an individual's posture, with psychologists and psychiatrists for mental health interventions and speech and language therapists to adapt an appropriate dietary regime.I promoted a holistic, person-centred approach to the individual's care needs including numerous different approaches, depending on the individual and their needs as described through their care-plans. I further engaged in regular supervision and appraisals in order to continue this holistic approach and to improve my own abilities in this field. As part of this role there were numerous duties away from the individual's direct care. I was regularly involved in the completion of care plans and a wide variety of recordings and observations to note the individual's ongoing care. Show less
