Other duties and responsibilities include:• Reporting to governance boards and executives.• Working with different teams and teams and third-party contributors.• Ensuring that the new services would increase service at reduced cost and specified where cost savings could be made.• Accurately analysing costs, explaining discrepancies with older figures, and securing funding for ongoing support.• Identifying stress points in our operations and building relationships with organisations from other nations with experts in those areas.Key Achievements:• Delivered two primary ICT and Satellite Communication projects.• Identified fifteen projects across seven teams in five organisations with the same general goal.• Created a cross-organisation team to coordinate delivery of the multiple projects coherently and efficiently.• Represented NZDF on two multinational working groups.• Identified more than $250K of annual expenditure to redirect to the project.• Achieved an acquisition and support agreement 80% cheaper than a commercial equivalent by negotiating between the NZ Ministry of Defence, NZDF, US Department of Defence, and Harris Systems Corporation. Handled a team consisting of 35 personnel on a $600M warship. Successes resulted in my promotion to Commander. Other duties and responsibilities include:• Ensuring the ship is regenerated and maintained to the required condition.• Leading commercial entities (subcontractors, international suppliers), HR, and internal and external training providers.Key Achievements:• Managed the strategic direction, culture, and performance of the ship as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.• Identified system shortfalls and drove the rectification of prioritised issues in response to a delay in planned maintenance.• Shifted the culture from recording and reporting shortfalls in anticipation of a refit period, to striving for excellence in an operational ship.• Directed whole ship activities involving 170 people.• Oversaw training, development, and safety of a department of 35.       In this position, I am responsible for the initial training of all junior officers, including cultural development, health and well-being, professional military skills, and, most importantly, leadership training and development. I conducted training to 60 people a year and serves as a leadership role model for up to 160 junior leaders. Other duties and responsibilities include:• Overseeing risk assessment and reduced the required staff loading in response to staffing issues.• Providing expert advice on training and development and ensuring alignment with the broader strategy and priorities.• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships for stakeholders. • Promoting health, safety, and well-being to staff and trainees.• Enabling staff to take the leave they earned, decreasing personnel cost, and improving productivity.Key Achievements:• Improved training output by 150% without a corresponding increase in staff that resulted in the highest training output in 20 years.• Revised the training model, creating a more integrated continuum of junior leader development that focuses on fostering the desired culture and behaviours.• Created a better balance between formal and on-the-job training.
