      Abbeyfield is a national charity which provides housing, care and support for older people. Abbeyfield has over 500 houses (including care homes and supported living) and around 4,500 volunteers. My main responsibilities were:• Leading on various volunteering projects. For example, I led on a volunteering audit to understand volunteering at Abbeyfield in more depth which was a first for the organisation • Researching and writing good practice volunteering procedures and materials to ensure the effective recruitment, induction and support of volunteers• Using data and case studies to raise awareness in Abbeyfield of the role and value of volunteers• Providing good practice advice to volunteer managers so they could give volunteers an excellent volunteering experience• Organising corporate volunteering opportunities with companies such as BT and Barclays Show less

      My role during the pandemic was repurposed. I was the lead on developing the new Companion Calls telephone befriending volunteer role (developed in response to the pandemic) into a corporate volunteering opportunity. This was the first major corporate volunteering role at Alzheimer’s Society.Working with over 30 corporate partners, recruiting 600 corporate volunteers which supported over 1,000 people affected by dementia across the UK.I was a finalist for an Alzheimer's Society People Award for developing a unique, successful corporate volunteering opportunity and for my effective teamwork with the Corporate Partnerships team.Aside from my role during the pandemic, my main responsibilities in this role were:• Managing and delivering projects from the ‘Volunteering Roadmap’ which is the key strategy plan for the Alzheimer’s Society • Working collaboratively with other teams and directorates.
