  Capacity & Prematerial Procurement Planner

  Established Monthly/Yearly Detail and Capacity plans for the Stainless Steel Melting Shop and Hot Strip Mill. Coordinate and procure the necessary volume of prematerial slabs or hot band coils needed to fulfill current and future customer orders. Provide information pertaining to the ramp-up of the Meltshop and determine the necessary grades and widths of stainless slabs to produce.Manage the overall pre-material process at TK-USA, to include purchasing, melt schedules, hot roll mill coordination of production requirements, and material deliveries of externally acquired pre-material from the port to the plant. Ensure that melt shop production is prioritized and communicated efficiently. Coordinate with corporate planning on pre-material requirements. Manage pre-material purchase order placement and change processing to ensure high levels of customer service and minimal inventories.Prepare annual production schedule based on a melt capacity of one million metric tons then further establish monthly, weekly, and daily scheduling of slabs and hot rolling mill production based on changing forecasts, changing priorities, revisions and order cancellations.   Led and mentored a team of four material planners each responsible for their own area of the value chain and for the timely fulfillment of orders based upon customer expectations increasing on-time customer shipments to 96% up from the previous year of 82%. This was accomplished via process changes, establishment of defined roles and responsibilities, coaching, and implementing lean concepts to support the demands of the customer in a high variation/high demand environment.Directed the management responsibilities of KPI reporting, yearly performance reviews, weekly meetings with the team, and held daily shop floor management meetings.Established and tracked the annual AOP production and shipment forecast for the plant as well as established the monthly plant forecast determining capacity constraints and driving daily shipment forecast/actual discussions. This allowed management at all levels to understand the score and what was required to hit the established goals.Communication contact for order expedites, delays, and concerns with fulfillment to customer service and sales. Our ability to hold true to our commitments drove increased customer trust and improved relations which increased year over year sales.Designed and implemented several “Harris Lean Systems” processes to improve changeover times and reorder quantities increasing product flow and replenishment. The processes included machine center optimizers and Kanban systems for 65% of the material demanded daily. This resulted in reduced WIP and overall inventory which was an annualized savings of over two million dollars. Worked with Mueller Co facilities to develop planning reports for efficiently scheduling the shop floor to minimize lead-time by a reduction in changeover impact. Assisted in the development of a. enterprise wide monthly planning process as well as designed metrics to capture plan vs actual daily/monthly performance. Improved existing Kanban pull systems to allow for the holding of less inventory by reducing production lead time and movement of parts.
