  Work Experience

  Spending a week with Arconic Engineering, I gained a valuable insight to see how each department functions regarding staff interaction and overall technical activity, such as the engineering of lightweight metals used for aeronautical construction for companies such as Airbus. I gained an understanding of the life-cycle of aluminium as it is first made to its final stages of production where staff pass waves through the individual sheets of metal to ensure that there are not any cracks or faults within it which could be hazardous, particularly for aircrafts. • During my visit, I had to create an instruction manual on how to operate different dangerous machinery correctly and safely when dealing with chemicals such as chlorine, highlighting the importance of health and safety in this work environment.• This important role enabled employees to easily understand how to use the equipment, essential when handing toxic, poisonous substances such as chlorine. • I was also involved in the testing of the aluminium, calculating the stress and strain of the material under loading to ensure that they are suitable for use in aviation Show less
