  The following represents the key responsibilities as a Systems Engineer at ATNS:• Planning, designing, specification and capital budgeting of communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) systems and facilities.• Ensuring Research and Development deliverables are congruent with long-term ATNS and aviation industry concepts, requirements and direction.• Conducting CNS research and development efforts of ATNS with a particular focus on the conceptualization and design of the ATNS’ CNS systems in support of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) operational concepts.• Participating and contributing to ICAO regional and international planning meetings and SADC forums that will advance ATNS’ position.• Preparation of plans, processes, procedures, and safety cases for introducing new technologies into the operational environment.• Providing input into the annual budget process for operational expenditure.• Translation of the CNS plans into capital expenditure and Managing the operational budget.   Systems Engineer

  Six months contract with INEO E&S, working in collaboration with ATNS, conducting feasibility studies for implementing Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS) and Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) for the landing phase of aircrafts on airports. Lawrence managed the entire project with guidance from project managers and technical managers from INEO E&SMain deliverables included the following:* Conducting research on traditional aircraft land systems as well as modern landing systems* Conducting a typical implementation of a GBAS system and the compilation and presentation of GBAS systems successfully installed globally.* Demonstration of a GBAS solution feasibility on airports in South Africa* Business case study focusing on the cost-benefit of GBAS compared to traditional Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) The above deliverables where achieved through the following means:* Consulting with Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) of France* Consulting with expert in the manufacturing of aeronautical solutions in France, Spain, Sweeden and Norway.* Visited Norway to present my project and received expert advice from one of the lead manufacturers of GBAS systems, Indra Navia.* Using state of the art simulation software to demonstrate the technical feasibility to implement GBAS in 4 airports in South Africa.
