Working as a system engineer in the in-house inverter software team, I am responsible for defining functional behaviour and non-functional requirements of some of our software features being developed using agile methodology. The key elements of my role are:✔ Eliciting requirements from the systems' stakeholders to understand the intended system behaviour in a SW context✔ Creating requirement specifications to define software functional behaviour and non-functional criteria to be met✔ Developing structural and behavioural SysML diagrams using model based systems engineering (MBSE) to support the SW architecture definition and requirements development✔ Utilising failure mode avoidance tools to develop mitigation strategies for specific failure modes✔ Writing test specifications to perform software verification testing at MIL and SIL level✔ Leading the development of data analytics capability within the team for creating data insights to support future software development Show less Led the control software and calibration development of the thermal control system and alternator control integration for the V8 engine powering the 22MY Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The core aspects of successfully delivering the project were:✔ Building strong cross functional relationships across multiple teams and departments to elicit and capture functional requirements for meeting critical system performance targets✔ Writing new and updated control system requirements to integrate new, project specific software features into the existing software architecture for the cross-powertrain thermal control system features✔ Liaising with suppliers to review and approve software design proposals and support software development✔ Creating new test cases to verify requirements for new software features and software integration✔ Supporting V&V team with automation of test cases to expedite verification testing for new software releases✔ Calibrating the thermal control system to optimise system performance across a wide range of operating conditions✔ Supporting thermal system validation testing by adjusting the calibration to overcome unpredictable issues and meet key performance targets✔ Analysing data from vehicle robustness testing to review control system behaviour and support software validationAlso led sub team developing data analytics dashboards for reporting powertrain control systems' robustness and system performance from vehicle robustness testing. The main activities of the team were:✔ Gathering information from key stakeholders to determine use cases that could be captured in reporting dashboards and prioritising them based on value created and effort required✔ Defining KPIs to assess the performance of each of the control systems in the context of their respective powertrain/vehicle level systems✔ Performing query searches on cloud data and writing processing scripts using in-house tools✔ Building dashboards for analysing data and KPIs Show less Joined as a graduate controls engineer in the APC Controls team initially, then moved into the Powertrain Controls team.Major Projects: ✔ Conducted physical testing phase of DoE assessing thermal control strategies to optimise engine warm up performance. Analysed data to assess thermal system performance and validate CAE simulations. ✔ Worked on integration of alternator control software into existing architecture, working with network architecture and power supply system teams to understand the existing system and define network interface requirements Placements: ✔ Spent three months as a test support engineer in the certification department preparing vehicles for emissions testing and analysing test data ✔ Spent three months in the global product strategy department supporting programme management team with activities on future programmes prior to KO Show less
