    • British Airways

      Apr 2004 - Aug 2005
      Eurofleet Cabin Crew

In this capacity, my primary focus was on facilitating a safe environment for customers and colleagues by ensuring compliance with statutory and company requirements. I also did everything within my gift to deliver the highest standards of service provision as the main point of in-flight customer contact, through anticipating customer need, responding to enquiries promptly and effectively, and applying impeccable attention to detail.

    • Flybe

      Nov 2006 - Feb 2019
      Senior First Officer

Similarly as a commercial pilot with Flybe, I oversaw all aspects of the safety and smooth running of flights. In practice, this encompassed assessing meteorological conditions, aircraft discrepancies and performance limitations in order to plan flights. If it was my flight, it was then for me to conduct pre-flight checks on navigation and operating systems, ensure correct performance of all safety systems, and brief cabin crew before flights. Throughout each flight I was responsible for providing instruction to crew, as well as updating and communicating with passengers. Show less

    • British Airways

      Feb 2019 - Nov 2020
      First Officer

Fundamental to this role was directing the operational management of aircraft to ensure the highest standards of safety compliance, efficiency and customer experience, in order to discharge both my own, and the airline’s duty of care and welfare for crew and customers. I did this by maintaining continuous awareness of the aircraft state, position, flight path, energy and general environment, as well as anticipating the potential impact of such factors on all individuals involved. I also provided a supporting role when not directly responsible for the flight. Related to this, a key component of the role was to maximise all resources available to me in order to diagnose deviations from required state, environmental changes and abnormal situations, and evaluate, select and implement alternative options. Once such deviations and options had been identified, it was, of course, crucial to communicate information to those impacted clearly, accurately and in a timely manner. In addition to overseeing the practical aspects of flight management, the role also involved applying commercial acumen and appropriate methodologies to decision-making processes. I was able to support the airline to embed an ethos of continuous improvement by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures, as well as conducting reviews to assess performance and identifying scope for refinements, assessing ‘what if’ scenarios and contingency strategies. This work went hand in hand with promoting continuing personal and professional development in self and colleagues. Show less
