  Letter Finisher

  Gemini is a plastics engineering company that makes various signs. Some examples are the Walmart signs, and the letters for McDonald's. As a letter finisher, I was one of several people that took a scraping tool and smoothed the edges of the plastic letters. We then worked with different patterns that the customer ordered and made sure the letters were in pristine condition. The letters also required specific hardware that had to be counted out and packed with each order.

  At this job, I did various tasks in the office. I helped implement a new software system for the portable restroom portion of the business, and was responsible for the billing of the customers. The billing was done through Quickbooks, and I also posted payments and worked with aging reports through Quickbooks. I helped track inventory, worked with payables, and handled deposits. One of the most interesting things I learned how to do was to reconcile the company checkbooks. It was really interesting to take concepts I learned in class and apply them to a real world situation.   Accounting Intern

  The summer of 2018 I was able to do an internship with this company. When I was working in the Accounts Payable side I was matching packing slips to invoices and then entering them into our ERP system called Syteline. Every week I was involved in our check run to determine which bills were to be paid that week. When I worked in the Accounts Receivable side I was posting cash receipts, entering the daily lockbox, and creating and mailing invoices. With assistance from our CFO, I helped with the monthly bank reconciliations. There were also quite a few spreadsheets that I worked on to help close out accounts and to reconcile various accounts. Overall I enjoyed this experience; it was interesting to see concepts I learned in the classroom and apply them to a real world situation. Show less

  For my first full-time position after graduating college, I had the opportunity to move to a whole new state and work for Castaway Customs. While there I helped implement an accounting structure. This included tracking and entering company expenses, managing office supplies, handling the Fleet account for drivers, managing the receivables of the company, and creating cash-basis financial statements. The company was also going through a merge situation and I was able to be involved with that as well. Show less
