      City & Guilds Certificate (Aeronautical Engineering), 1971 Aircraft Engines and associated Propulsion Systems Junior Technician, Aircraft Technician (Propulsion).

      Activities and Societies: C of E Club committee, Hill-walking, Judo team, Room leader Two-year Craft Apprenticeship sudying all aspects of Aeronautical and Propulsive theory, plus Physics, English language, Mathematics and associated subjects. Hands-on practical training in metal fabrication & fitting. In-line & radial internal combustion engine maintenance, fixed & variable-pitch propeller maintenance, centrifugal and axial-flow compressor gas turbine engine maintenance, associated aircraft systems and practical aircraft maintenance.

(P), then Propulsion Technician & line maintenance duties on Shorts Belfast (Tyne), Bristol Britannia (Proteus), Vickers VC-10 (Conway) and visiting aircraft at RAF Brize Norton & Gan. Similar supervisory & rectification duties on McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom FGR2 (Spey), in Germany and East Anglia. 1969 - 1983.

Promoted & transferred to Light Transport (Short Skyvan/Seavan fleet plus BN Defender a/c), after 3 years, with additional responsibilities as Line Supervisor/Leading Hand and acting Foreman. Duties split between First Line & Base Maintenance, carrying out scheduled servicing to Minor 2-star ("C" check), level. Certifying Engineer for on and off-base repair & maintenance. Show less
