  Overseeing 6 journals: Magnet, The Sign, Crucible, Concilium, JLS, and The Preacher.Working as the Managing Editor for 6 magazines and journals. Each periodical with a different readership and editorial style, from glossy magazine to academic journal. My role involved leading various internal departments and individuals to create a finished publication. I was involved in the process at every stage, either by overseeing or working alongside internal and external departments to ensure the final product reaches a consistent high standard and is within budget.An important aspect of the role involved supporting and managing internal departments and external freelancers, coordinating and providing support for them to reach their full potential. This varied from providing technical assistance to senior editors, to coaching first time volunteer editors, helping them gain the experience and confidence needed to create a successful publication.Other key elements of the role include:-Design and layout work, using InDesign and then working with an in-house production team for larger design elements.-Editing skills, to ensure all content meets either the house style or particular journal style, for which I use InCopy, so that content can be shared seamlessly with the production team. -Proofreading all content and making corrections before sending issues to press. -Working closely with the in-house marketing team to ensure each new issue is promoted across multiple platforms and that subscriber numbers increase.-Creating a budget and an annual publishing schedule for all 6 journals, from commissioning to print deadlines.-Seeking copyright permissions to reproduce text and images in journals.-Interviewing and hiring editors, commissioning translations, and seeking copyright permissions for both images and text.-Editor for The Sign magazine, a monthly publication that has 20,000 readers. Show less This role involved managing weekly feature articles for the Church Times newspaper.I took features through the editorial process from start to finish. My responsibilities included:-Submitting feature ideas to editors for consideration, from proposals to new book releases.-Commissioning journalists and briefing them on word length, timing and content.-Liaising with authors, artists, publishers, and PR companies to arrange interviews.-Ensuring a feature’s timely submission by continued contact with journalists.-Researching and sourcing images for features and obtaining permissions for both image and text.
