  Researchers from NRC “Kurchatov Institute” actively participate in the flagship high energy physics project, Large Hadron Collider, being official members of two international experimental collaborations – ALICE and LHCb. At ALICE, team of NRC “Kurchatov institute” is responsible for the precise photon spectrometer PHOS. It is based on PWO crystals, designed and produced in Russia and is one of the key detectors of ALICE. Our physicists also play active role in data acquisition and physical analysis in this experiment. The necessity for the detector upgrade making possible its operation in 2017-2018 LHC run is established. The group of NRC “Kurchatov Institute” is currently working on PHOS upgrade together with colleagues from other institutes. At LHCb, NRC “Kurchatov Institute” takes part in the upgrade activity concerning scintillating fiber tracker project. The production center responsible for assembling of the tracker main active elements – scintillating ribbons – is being constructed in NRC “Kurchatov Institute”. Show less
