I also carried out many of the physical duties needed to run a mart effectively such as passport clarification, isolation of animals not fit for sale, direction of traffic entering and exiting the loading bays of the building.I devised a system where by all hauliers were moving far faster than normal if they adhered to the system as it was relieving pressure on workers all the while allowing more work to be done.General operations: Fire safety checks (I.e. fire extinguishers, fire blankets were clearly marked and exit were clear).First aid equipment checksDrainage pattern monitoringForklift inspectionLaboratory work: General testing of effluent for ammonia, nitrate and phosphate contaminationTesting of effluent for high and low range CODTesting milk powder for different levels of specs, bulk density, protein and fat content and wettability.Milk Sampling: Testing milk for freshness as plant was using two types of cooling systems to determine which os most profitable.Constant drainage monitoring, sample grabbing and solids testingDrain regulation: All the above with regard to Dairy Ingredients Plant Show less

    • FRS Network

      Mar 2016 - Nov 2017
      Consultant

      - Course facilitator for the Beef Data Genomics Programme:I delivered a training course compiled by Teagasc and ICBF for farmers who have been accepted to participate in the Beef Data Genomics Programme. It is designed to identify all the issues that may come up with farmers participating in the scheme and to aid them in decision making by showing them the various options available to them through several case studies. I also applied my own personal knowledge of the scheme to aid farmers in their decision making and overall knowledge of the scheme- GLAS planning:I worked with farmers to develop a cost effective and environmentally sustainable plan that falls within the criteria of the Green Low-Carbon Agri-environmental Scheme. It promotes environmentally friendly farming and in particular gives farmers on marginal land a means to keep farming and provide a source of income to stay competitive with farmers on better land. Throughout the 5 years of the plan the planner is in constant contact with participants so as to ensure they are adhering to the specification of the scheme and to ensure they continue to get paid.- Nutrient Management plans:As part of the GLAS scheme, a farmer has to submit a Nutrient Management Plan drafted by a registered consultant such as myself. It is a fertiliser plan that utilises soil sample analysis, animal concentrate feed inputs and slurry produced. Data is then used to compile a plan for lime and organic fertilisers produced and more importantly chemical fertiliser use and where to spread it.-BPS submissions:I submitted farmers applications to receive their annual subsidy from the Basic Payment Scheme with regard to all land owned, leased or rented and any changes in said land. If changes arise I then ammend the plans.-Carbon Navigator plans:These are plans carried out under the BDGP which detail farmers carbon efficiency and are amended to make each farmer more efficient and show where financial gains can be made as such Show less
