  In my third year of studying Engineering Management at university I was required to spenda year in an engineering firm in order to gain a diploma of industrial studies. Uponjoining the group I was placed in the Quality Department. Through being on placement with RFD Beaufort, its affiliates and other businessesinvolved with the company I have been able to distinguish between; the differentmanagement, organisational and system structures throughout the company, how they interactand have been able to apply my theory knowledge in understanding these matters better. I was also introduced into the Technical department, through readingengineering drawings. I had to be able to understand and read the notations in order tounderstand what the drawing were telling me and studying the Engineering Communicationmodule enabled me to carry out this task. My main responsibility during my time at RFD Beaufort was to run and maintaintheir Quality management system. Ensuring that all new documents were up to date, correctand available to the engineers at all times. The platform of information my courseprovided enabled me to better the actual activities and requirements needed to implementquality engineering in a busy technical environment. This proved to be very useful in myday to day work but also in other aspects of the quality department such as: Customerissues/complaints, Auditing, MCN's, Standard Operating Procedures and many other tasks.Throughout this placement I worked strictly in accordance with standards ISO9001: 2000,OSO14001 and AS9100. I attended regular management meetings relating to IntegratedManagement System (Quality and Environmental).
