  1. Background and issue identificationThe Corporate Finance and Financial Reporting (CFFR) department serves as the financial backbone of ANU. Although the current working processes of CFFR are established, some are still input manually, which needs to be improved as these inefficient workflows negatively impact the department's efficiency (Chong, personal communication, 1st August 2023). The tasks assigned to me are mainly about automating the manual tasks within CFFR to a certain extent to improve its work efficiency.2. ObjectivesThis internship project will focus on increasing the efficiency, productivity, and quality of the ANU CFFR department by improving its existing process. Three sub-objectives will be achieved.• Automation of Asset Movement table: Transition from current manual analysis to a semi-automated process using Excel, streamlining the handling of the extensive 10,000+ line items annually.• Hard close Packs Distribution Enhancement: Develop an automated system to efficiently distribute and track hard close packs sent to different Business Units within ANU.• Daily Tasks Assistance: Support sporadic tasks such as Go8 reporting to reduce other colleagues’ workloads.3. Methods and ProceduresThe following methods will be implemented during my internship to achieve the above objectives:• Asset Movement Table: First, I will review the existing line items for their forms and commonalities. Next, I will implement formulae in Excel to automate the categorization and analysis of these patterns. Finally, I will use recent data sets to test and refine the automated processes if errors happen. • Hard Close Packs Distribution: I will consult my colleagues and supervisor to ascertain various Business Units' information requirements. Secondly, I will explore the potential tools, such as VBA, for automating the distribution process and monitoring responses.• Daily Tasks: Using Excel or other Office tools to handle sporadic tasks efficiently.
