      Salesperson

As a student who finished the pre-university study and waiting for an application to a local university, I grabbed the chance to work part-time and accumulated some working experiences. A shop promoter doesn't only need to know how to talk (in multiple languages indeed), but is also entitled to plan and understand all the aspects of selling products. Besides just promoting the products to customers, I had the pleasure to work together with co-workers for accounting, stock planning, customer service and higher-up communication. Throughout the months of working in the outlet, I have learnt many soft skills and lessons such as to interact with different kind of customers. Especially for a science students, communication skill is normally not at a priority list. However, to work as a shop promoters, I needed to interact with customers and utilized the teamwork skill to maximize the sales in the shop. In 8.5 months of experience as a sales associate, the target achieved could be felt by persuading someone to purchase the products with a smile. It showed me the variety of personalities among the customers and gave me the opportunities to speak to people more than I could have in years of schools. Show less

      Manufacturing Engineering Degree Student

Ended during the pandemic, but I didn't regret any of the past decisions to enrol in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). This 4-year journey reminded me that:While academic results definitely occupied some weight in a student's life, it was never the most important thing in the university. There are plenty of things deserved more of our attention in this 4 years than just the notes and exams. Attitudes, social circle, activity-time balancing and soft skill development all are too important to ignore as a university student.Studying as a student major in Manufacturing Engineering with Management, I loved its sense of generality where it touches a part of almost everything in engineering. It covered mechanical, manufacturing, management, electrical, materials, design, production, automation and so on. I felt glad to have several practical courses that aim to bring us closer to the theories. The examples of these courses are product design, lean manufacturing, artificial intelligence deep learning project. Other than the knowledge from lecturers and laboratories, I took part in several extra-curricular activities and societies to enhance my soft skills. I joined the committees for cultural nights, Confucianism talks and school prom nights. It helped to improve my communication and problem-solving skills. With the graduation still yet to be held, I earned my degree certificate by passing all the subjects and finishing my Final year Project on a high. Show less

    • Legoland Malaysia

      Jul 2019 - Sept 2019
      Service Crew

A fun ride and eventful working environment with Legoland indeed. I could not have believed that my first time of visiting Legoland was working there as temporary crew during festive and holiday seasons. It was my university semester break. I decided to explore in this job which has the sole purpose to bring happiness and unforgettable experience to theme park visitors. The job title was rather interesting because it was called 'Superhero Crew' but in fact, the job scope represented it quite accurately. The 'Superhero Crew' was sent to different departments every days when that particular departments were short of manpower. Sometimes we would get to rotate into two different departments in a single day. Due to primary guests in the park consisted of tourists and kids, friendly and relaxed communication with guests were essential. The diverse working crews also taught me a lot of new things such as dealing with high crowds, ensuring a safe workplace and adapting to unfamiliar environments. Another interesting part of this job was that I would meet a bunch of new people every day including colleagues at different stations and customers.During a particular peak day, the park was visited by over ten thousand people. The crews including me resiliently overcame lots of challenges like overcrowded rides, entry system malfunctions, limited equipment and more. Having a precious experience like this that deal with tourists and customers made me stronger in facing future challenges. It was also exciting to work with kids in building stuff from legos. Design Engineering Intern

A short 12-week internship at Dyson was nearly not possible for me as it happened in the midst of a global pandemic. Thankfully, I still had the honour to step foot into the office and take a closer look into real industrial works when the pandemic was easing down a bit.The tasks for a design engineer intern were beneficial for me to truly learn something in the real-life product design process. It differed totally from what I have learnt in the university. In the workplace, the problem solving and two-way communication process were more intense than in the university courses. I felt the challenges to have been recruited into this rapidly growing technology company. Its philosophy of using engineering concepts to empower the daily life machines was mind-blowing and made me feel that the 'Dyson' word was so intimidating. Luckily, I had the kind company that gave a lot of useful industrial training and practical tasks to gain maximum knowledge from this short amount of period. I even had a training session about statistical capability and design tolerance which I heard again few months later. Although not as full-package as internship without the pandemic, this industrial training still gave me the exposure and opportunities in experiments of testing part specification and working with prototypes. I was also grateful to be involved in a project that improves the washing reliability of the products by modifying the washing tests to verify its problems. It was even more exciting considering this project required working with different project teams together. It certainly helped open my eyes of different team cultures. Show less

It served as a continuation from the internship period and I was back into the same position again as a floorcare design engineer. My primary role was to support the projects either in designing components or fixing the reliability of parts. Just starting the working life, I will continue my integration into Dyson working culture that cultivates innovation and forward-thinking in all its processes.

It was an extra-curricular activity to enable stressful students like me to observe more from the people around us and translate it into words that illustrate the visuals or actions. This participation and recognition encouraged me to improve my writing and critical thinking skills by using other's story to reflect on my life. I was glad to have bravely taken the opportunity and conquered the fear of my first time writing a proper screenplay. Hope that it would allow me to keep trying the new things. Show less
