      Live Sound Engineer

As a live sound engineer, I have learned to work fast and problem solve in high-pressure situations. My approach to this work is to be flexible: in the working hours required and the personal relationships involved. While sound engineering is a both a technical and creative practice, it also involves a high degree of service, both to the performers and to the audience. It has been my fundamental objective to foster good working relations with the performers, facilitating their needs to perform at their best, in addition to "reading" the audience. Working in live environments means getting things right on the first try, however, it also means preparation, practice and perfection before any event ever takes place. This approach has shaped my work ethic: I am constantly practicing and perfecting my skills so I can perform at my best when needs be. Show less

    • Sky Venue

      Mar 2007 - Nov 2009
      Resident Sound Engineer

This role included mixing live sound for various acts and music artists, along with PA setup and maintenance. The position required problem-solving and the ability to think quickly in pressure situations. When dealing with complex PA systems, with hundreds of meters of wiring and a myriad of inputs and outputs problems are inevitable. In fact, I would say problems are the norm. Given the nature of live performance, such problems need to be solved in a timely manner with a minimum of inconvenience to the performers. It was my priority to solve all issues in a controlled and competent manner, thus giving the artists confidence in my abilities. I also saw my position as the other member of the band and placed value on nurturing good working relationships and helping the performers in any reasonable way. Quite often musicians can be anxious before a show and I saw one of my responsibilities as cultivating a friendly pre-show atmosphere. Show less

      UX Design Specialist

I was commissioned to design and code five interactive touch screen displays. This role required the ability to work quickly and meet tight deadlines and be effective within the team while finding innovative solutions to the design problem.

      Apr 2011 - Jan 2012
      Multimedia Public Relations Officer

My tasks included implementing various multimedia solutions for the university, working closely with senior management and other key staff members. I prepared podcasts and edited promotional videos, maintained the website homepage and news pages, and updated some of the social media channels. I also photographed events on campus. The role required me to be adaptable and very well versed in all areas of multimedia production. There was a large emphasis on staying current with design trends and excellent working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite. Furthermore, given my responsibilities to document events on campus I regularly engaged with government ministers and politicians, renowned academics, and international public figures, thus demanding excellent inter-personal communication and confidence around successful and influential leaders.
