      As part of Dr. Jason Blank's lab, we studied molecular targets for mitochondrial biogenesis regulation, angiogenesis promotion and glucose transport in exercising muscle tissues subjected to ethanol exposure and/or a simulated metabolic syndrome effects.Advanced my lab techniques in protein purification, enzyme assays and molecular DNA/RNA extraction from different muscle tissue samples; collected and analysed large data sets using excel and R software.

      Clinical Experience Summer Internship

      Shadowed internal medicine residents and sub-specialist endocrinology attendings at New Hanover regional hospital, outpatient endocrinology clinics and pediatric endocrinology clinic. Became familiar with different diagnosis & treatment schemes in endocrinology through daily interpretation of lab results, imaging studies, and individualized patient care.

      Spent a summer at the NIH devision of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), where I carried out a multi-variable analytic component of an ongoing clinical trial, aimed to systematically validate prognostic factors for patients diagnosed with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2B (MEN2B).Gained unique insight from clinical encounters with the enrolled trial patients across multiple institutes and had the special opportunity to attend weekly grand rounds and branch meetings at the NIDDK.       As part of Dr. Elizabeth Rhea's lab, we investigated central nervous system insulin resistance as seen in Alzheimer’s Disease pathology. By modulating delivery, transport & distribution of insulin signaling in the brain, we were able to compare various risk factors such as genetics, diet and sex, on overall cognitive function and therapeutic potentials.
