  - i had the opportunity of attending the insight day at Aviva organised by DMJ, this was to learn about the role of a Company Secretary.- I was able to network with a couple of solicitors who were also present (training to become a Company Secretary). - We were put into groups and tasked with finding out what the legal issues were, from a role play shown to us. I was chosen to give the presentation to the audience, on behalf of our group, and showcase our answer.- Overall, a very enjoyable experience, and i learnt about a new avenue, in conjoining law and business.   Presentation given by Jo Chimes on spotting potential discrimination issues in social welfare cases. Introduced to the positive duty on public authorities and service providers to provide positive reasonable adjustments for those that they may be negatively impacted by their policies. Current circumstances, have opened potential discrimination cases for a large group of people, especially surrounding redundancies. Moreover, introduced to the scope of the Equality Act, the protected characteristics within it and the questions to ask and think about when suspecting a possible discrimination case. Show less This workshop highlighted the importance of the case Arkin v Marshall [2020] especially when it comes to what parties can do during the stay period. If parties have an agreement to continue to comply with the Practice Directions during the stay, i.e. disclosure, building a defence etc. parties cannot apply to the court to state that one party has not complied, once the stay is lifted, parties that did not comply could face adverse repercussions such as an unfavourable costs order or less time to prepare. This webinar gave an insight into what firms looks for when assessing candidates virtually and what makes candidates stand out. Moreover, Paul included tips such as how to set up your laptops, build rapport and engage with the interviewer.
