      Registered Nurse

During my four years working first as a Nursing Officer and then Senior Nursing Officer as part of a small medical team I was responsible for ensuring the best medical practice under the governance of the Nursing Scope of Practice as well as the Company’s Fleet Medical Regulations. Working at sea encompasses every land based hospital department, making sea nurses proficient in all these areas. These departments include Paramedical, Administration, Accounting, Pharmacy and Stock management, Laboratory and X-ray Services, General Emergency and ICU Practice which include all the disciplines such as Orthopedic, Surgical, Medical and Gynecology for instance. In my four years at sea I encountered many medical and surgical illnesses and emergencies from Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy to Ruptured Duodenal Ulcers, Strokes, Acute Myocardial Infarcts, Acute Renal Failure, Hepatic-encephalopathy, Orthopedic injuries and emergencies to mention a few. P & O Princess Cruises is also one of the few Cruise Ship Companies that has an on board Blood Transfusion Policy which allowed us to stabilize and effectively manage critically ill patients while out at sea until such time we were able to medically disembark these patients into land based hospitals for further management.
