      Oct 1989 - Jan 1994
      Project Engineer / Project Manager

Project Manager on Sawmill, Particle Board, Furniture Plant and Natural Gas/Waste Wood fired boiler plant, Norilsk, Russia, worth 112 mil US$. In that role led multifunctional team of engineers and technicians (app. 30 people at the peak) that completed detailed design of the facility, provided construction support and supervision on the detailed design of the technological projects – sawmill, particle board and furniture factory. Project Manager on the detailed design, piping construction support, commissioning, and testing for 14 km long copper ore slurry piping from the old to the new copper mine. Overall responsibility for the preliminary design of co-generation plant extension in pulp and paper plant consisting of 250 t/hr, 74 bar superheated steam, natural gas fired boiler, 35 MW turbine – generator set and 250 t/hr water treatment plant. Analyzed condition and operation of five existing coal/waste wood boilers and recommended new boiler as more effective solution than conversion of existing boilers to natural gas. The project achieved high efficiency of the operating system and minimized emissions, including CO2, emitted to the atmosphere. Show less

In the role of Project Manager/Project Engineer worked on numerous waste wood and natural gas fired energy system projects for forestry and board (OSB and MDF) industry. Engineered large waste wood combustion systems (150 million BTU/hr) for both wet and dry wood fuel. Projects ranged from 1 – 9 million dollars.Supervised project team and prepared project plans with schedules for engineering and construction. Visited site to inspect progress, and ensure design compliance. Selected equipment, generated technical specifications, evaluated bids, and selected suppliers. Typical equipment includes thermal oil heaters, natural gas burners, steam boilers and generators, electrostatic precipitators (ESP), heat exchangers, and pumps. Show less

    • Ballard Power Systems

      Jan 1998 - Jan 2001
      Project Engineer

Led the team that designed, registered and commissioned all pressure components for 250 kW stationary PEM fuel cell generator, the largest PEM fuel cell generator in the world. As a part of the team, I worked on the development of the next generation of the generator, focusing primarily on the system integration issues, fuel reforming systems, overall system efficiency and cost. The system efficiency reached numbers previously thought unachievable Technical lead for 60 kW stationary fuel cell generator, based on automotive fuel cell engine and utilizing methanol as the fuel. The generator was new generation of quick starting, auxiliary power units, intended to serve as backup power in Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS). In that role participated in discussions with leading manufacturers of UPS systems in the world. Particular advantage was use of the liquid fuel for the generation. Show less

    • Universal Dynamics, Ltd.

      Jan 2001 - Jul 2001
      Senior Project Engineer

Engineered and project managed ammonia removal system for composting plant: selected equipment (wet scrubber, acid mixing system and air distribution), prepared layout and tender documentation for equipment fabrication and supply. Managed project for two 34 t/day HCl synthesis units, built and commissioned in Vancouver for Nexen Inc. Coordinated selection of the equipment, preparation of bid documentation, bids evaluation and recommendation for fabricators and suppliers.

    • Global Power Technologies

      Jul 2001 - Jan 2004
      Program Manager

Program Manager Automotive – hired to lead development of fuel cell generators for automotive applications. Together with Business Development carried out discussions with the major car manufacturer. I was Project Manager on the development of residential fuel cell generator prototype. Led multifunctional team of engineers to design and build new generation of residential power generators, using solid oxide fuel cell technology.

    • Enerflex Ltd.

      Feb 2004 - Aug 2006
      Project Engineer / Project Manager

Project managed domestic and international compression package projects. Some projects include design of 5000 HP turbo compressor project for Suncor, 3000 HP electrical reciprocating units, and various gas engine driven compression packages for domestic and international customers.Engineered screw compressor packages for natural gas compression and selected the best combination of engine and compressor. Key team member in the development of the standard screw compressor package line(s) for Enerflex, not previously available in the product lineup. Show less

    • Alliance Pipeline

      Jan 2006 - Jan 2011
      Project Manager

Project Managed engineering and construction phase of Taylor Junction natural gas compressor station, near Fort St. John, BC, utilizing Solar Taurus 60 gas turbine as the driver. Total project cost was 32 million CDN. Construction was completed on time and on the budget, and after successful commissioning and startup the station entered commercial operation in December 2008. Construction contracts were on Time and Material basis with commissioning utilizing Alliance Pipeline internal resources. In the role of Project Manager guided execution phase of four innovative Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) recovered heat power generation projects at Alliance compressor stations in Saskatchewan, 5 MW electrical each. Overall project worth more than 76 million CDN and delivered on time and on budget. All four systems are in commercial operation since 2006 and 2008. The system utilized novel ORC process to capture heat from turbine exhausts and generate electric power. Participated in evaluation of waste heat ORC systems for other locations, both from technical and business point of view.Project managed engineering and construction of the additional gas cooler (app. 7 million dollars) at the Alameda compressor station in Saskatchewan. Cooler was successfully commissioned and operates above expectations, allowing considerable fuel saving. Managed a number of meter station projects in Alberta and BC. The projects were completed under the budget and on time in extremely compressed schedule, developing a standard design for the company in the process. Show less
