  Participant in "De Overname"

  "De Overname" was a project organized by the VRT, which gave a select group of teens the chance to experience and execute television- and radio-programs from start to finish. I participated in a variety of workshops on writing, sound- and movie-editing, and had several other learning experiences from shadowing professionals from closeby. During the project we were tasked with making a full drama mini-series, a talkshow, a music oriented show in front of a live audience, and running our own radiostation.I more specifically participated as Director, Film Editor, and Graphic Designer of the music oriented program "Track01". I also filled the position of Radio technician and Editorial Staff Member for the other programs.This might have been the most unique learning experience I have had to date. Working amongst and besides a large company of professionals willing to guide us through the whole process was invaluable for my communication and teamwork skills. Next to these general skills I am also greatful to have learned first hand what goes into making a program for both radio and television. Show less

  The Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie, or VRT, is the national public-service broadcaster for the Flemish Region and Community of Belgium.Because of the graphical work I did while participating in "De Overname" project, I was invited to do an internship at the Graphics Department of the VRT. Herein I acquired experience in almost every program in the Adobe Creative Suite (except website design) and learned to function within a very creative team wherein clear communication is key.   I am part of a research group that conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of socioeconomics, complex systems, and networks often combining methods from both data science, machine learning, economics/econometrics, and physics.I am specialised in processing and analysing data from an econometrics point-of-view as well as from a machine learning standpoint. I have learned how to design and code pipelines to process and analyse large amounts of data with a variety of tools. I also learned how to efficiently lead a project and report progress to superiors and colleagues.During my Ph.D. I have collaborated with a large European bank and an internationally renowned game company to help them better understand their clients and further the knowledge on socioeconomic problems. This enabled the marketing team to more efficiently spend ad budget obtaining higher Return on Ad Sales and lower Customer Acquisition costs.

  I am one of the academic researchers who, through a long-term collaborative effort between Ghent University and BNP Paribas Fortis, has been embedded within BNPPF’s A&AI team. Our goal is to construct “Models for a Changing world” with which we push the state-of-the-art in societal and banking relevant economic research. I coordinate the day-to-day of the team and the ongoing projects. My own research focusses on inequality, fairness, and causal inference.
