  As an intern in a Day Treatment program of a psychiatric hospital, I created a skill set aimed at understanding the mindset of people with serious and persistent mental illness. This experience helped me understand the ways to assist people with extreme difficulties in their lives and in their minds. This assisted me in finding new ways to coach and support adolescents and young adults that have extreme issues.

  Before discussing my work at VMC, it's important to understand the technique of Vipassana which means in Pali "to see things as they really are." This technique provides grounding support and self understanding, and it is essential to my work as a counselor, coach and guide. While studying the technique in depth and having it imbue the work I would later do, I worked to develop concrete systems aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of this very unique non-profit. As a manager of the center, I created new, innovative ways to facilitate the maintenance of the facility, while also working to discover ways to bring in new volunteers, which we used to power of the operation. We used people power and in exchange people were able to visit the center, meditate and connect. I provided coaching to volunteers and our staff on best practices for maximizing our human capital, while managing the human resources and creating policy and procedures to ensure consistency and effective operation.
