      Alternative Energy intern

I received an internship for the summer of 2007 to research the renewable energy potential for tribes in Montana. My main topic was geothermal energy uses and categories. I developed a presentation and paper on the geothermal potential for tribes. I also researched co-generation/hybrid systems, wind energy, biomass, electric and hydrogen fuels, and waste-to-energy facility. Also, I attended a renewable energy conference in Denver, Colorado titled Renewable energy for Tribal Community Development Workshop presented by the U.S. Department of Energy's Tribal Energy Program and toured a wind energy research facility in Boulder Colorado. Jan 2010 - Jan 2011
      Noxious Weed Tech

From October 2009 to 2011, I assisted the Blood Tribe Altalink Liaison as a Noxious Weed Control Monitor with Blood Tribe Land Management to mitigate the construction activities of the 240 kV transmission line project. The project impacted cultivated and native prairie grassland ecosystems that crossed multiple occupants and residents that needed to be periodically consulted with the initiation and progress of the project. A main concern of the tribe was to minimize the spread of Leafy Spurge, an invasive plant as defined in the Alberta Weed Control Act and Regulations. Monitoring all stages of activity was the main objective of my job to keep work crews within the right of way and to keep the project footprint minimal. Another concern was the protection of culturally significant sites important to the Blackfoot Confederacy. The monitors would also identify and monitor for species at risks within the project's footprint. Show less

    • KAINAIWA RESOURCES INC

      Jul 2011 - Sept 2015
      Environmental Officer

From 2011 to 2015 I was employed as the Environmental Officer for Kainaiwa Resources Inc. In this position, I served as a tribal regulator of the oil and gas activity on the Blood reserve. I oversaw the oil and gas activity from cradle to grave. My duties were to work with federal and provincial, tribal and industry proponents in administering all required environmental regulations and policies. I coordinated the environment, archaeological and traditional land use assessments for each project. I would also evaluate and analyze proponents environmental assessments for proposed projects, conduct site visits, do right of way and well site audits, review screening reports and environmental term letters and ensure recommendations for approvals were adhered to. Planning all stages of each oil and gas activity to minimize the footprint and cumulative impacts of each project to the tribe and the environment was a major objective for me. I was able to get a proponent to commit to documenting the species-at-risk within the native prairie on the Blood reserve for 3 years. The proponent also with the assistance of the GOA Ferruginous Hawk specialist, and I placed and constructed a ferruginous hawk nesting platform in the native prairie on the north end of the Blood reserve. Community and individual land occupant consultation was a requirement I completed to address the concerns the community might have. I would also resolve environmental issues while maintaining an effective relationship with industry, federal and provincial regulators, and tribal departments. Show less
