      * US PATENT: US20150199920 A1I was one of 14 students selected to participate in CREATE, a summer experience developed to immerse its members in a hands-on, real-world, engineering project. I collaborated with Engineers, Nurse Educators, and Surgeons to create an interactive robotic training game that simulated the operating room for scrub persons. The main job for a scrub person is to locate and pass instruments requested by the surgeon. The success of the surgery is dependent on the accuracy and speed of the instruments handed to the surgeon. Because the majority of a scrub person’s training is on the job, which risks lives, it was necessary to find a solution that developed all required skills without putting patients in danger.Inspired by video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, we developed an interactive simulation that gave voice commands, tutorials, and quizzes to educate the scrub person for the operating room. A robotic hand was used to represent the surgeon, and the latest RFID technology was equipped within the hand to identify instruments being placed in it. Show less
