      Structural Engineer

      Worked as a part-time designer in different engineering consultant offices. I was responsible for the design and detailing of different types of reinforced concrete structures; including residential buildings, hotels, and villas, using the Egyptian Code of Practice. I was responsible for performing the structural analysis of these structures using Finite Element Software (SAP-2000), followed by the detailed design for the slabs, beams, columns and foundations.

      Lead Project Engineer:  Oversight of developing conceptual design alternatives, preliminary and detailed design of several infrastructure projects in Manitoba, Canada. Act as an assistant project manager for the bridge design projects, responsible for coordination between all disciplines; hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, geotechnical and foundation investigations, and geometric and transportation design. Preparing preliminary and detailed design report presenting the hydrologic and hydraulic requirements, survey analysis, foundation design, structural evaluation, cost analysis, scheduling, construction drawings and specifications. Structures types covered concrete and steel bridges, culverts, and Outfall gate chambers. The design of these projects was done according to CSA-A23.3 and AASHTO-LRFD. Full responsibly for arranging all meetings between all disciplines and the Client at several milestone stages during the project scope.Bridge Design Engineer:  Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering. Coordinate work with clients and other disciplines including highway/road, electrical, drainage and environmental planning. Analysis, FE modelling and design of different transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundations. Direct CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables prior to submission to Client. Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents and cost estimate. Provide tender evaluations and/or construction engineering services. Work within assigned project budgets and schedules.Quality Assurance Inspector:  Responsible for various precast concrete inspections at different precast facilities in Canada; Lafarge and Armtec plants (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Facca Inc.        Project manager for the bridge maintenance projects, starting with site inspections, all required testing, conditions assessment and analysis, life cycle cost analysis, rehabilitation design and detailing, tendering to contractors, and Contract Administration during construction until final acceptance.  Plan, direct and review the inspection, maintenance and repair of city-owned bridges, overpasses, underpasses and other facilities; review work orders to determine the most efficient method of completing assignments; review blueprints and sketches of concrete, timber and steel bridges; recommend more complex repair projects for performance by contractors. Undertake structural design and assessment of identified maintenance projects, contract administration, and supervision of inspection services. Also, supervise the preparation of engineering drawings, record drawings and project documentation, prepare technical specifications and bid opportunity packages. Analyze bridge structural problems; develop feasible solutions; assess cost effectiveness of projected repairs; perform structural and design analysis; reviews contractors' final designs and proposals; design or make recommendations concerning construction sequence, materials to be used, traffic control schemes, construction operation, and modifications to existing plans. Make on-site inspections to determine that the work is being done in conformance to directives, trade standards or contracts; interpret plans and specifications for work crews or contractors; inspect materials, construction sequence, traffic control operations and shop drawings; review contractor estimates for partial or full payment; contact other agencies to coordinate activities, such as utility shutdowns and traffic control. Review plans and specifications for contractual maintenance work; recommend modifications; prepare specifications for minor modifications to existing plans; act as a project manager for these types of projects.
