      Before qualifying as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor I trained as a carpenter and joiner, having always been convinced through school that it’s what I wanted to do. While I ultimately decided it was not for me, the experience and qualifications gave me a unique perspective with which I have since been able to understand and execute my role within the construction industry.

      In 2005 I began work with Laing O’ Rourke, starting as the Commercial Lead responsible for bidding and delivering major projects in the North West including the £800m major light rail infrastructure works for the Manchester Metro-link, Salford and Wigan Building Schools for the Future consisting of 26 secondary schools a £500M PFI and the £50m SCAN Project for the University City Centre scheme. That led to seven years at Laing O’ Rourke Canada, where I was directly involved as Commercial Lead for the Canada Business Unit in launching and establishing a new strategic business venture, winning and delivering major projects including hospitals, an engineering school and the Pam Am Game’s venues in Toronto. Often these projects would include teams based around the world, spanning multiple languages and time zones.In this role I had direct involvement in establishing strategic business ventures in Canada, finding, winning and delivering major projects. For example, I was the Commercial Lead on multiple bids including:1. Pam Am Games - Athletes Village, D&B - CAD $750 m, 20112. Pam Am Aquatics Centre, DBF- CAD $225 m, 2011/20123. Pan Am Stadiums Venues -DBF - CAD $250 m, 2012/20134. New Engineering School, York University Toronto- CAD $90 m 2013- to 20145. North West LNG Civil's Work Package $900m - British Columbia- 2014 6.
