      Activities and Societies: University of Manchester Japanese Society Through this degree I obtained a detailed understanding of the Japanese language and various aspects of Japanese culture, including history, religion and contemporary society. Skills studied include translation, reading and understanding Japanese texts, giving presentations and writing essays in Japanese. In my final year I researched and wrote a dissertation about the modern portrayal of certain aspects of Japanese folklore. The course further involved a year of study in a Japanese university.
